Coronavirus Updates from Israel: April 5

Dear Friends,

Another week of this corona-nightmare…. waking up each morning and instead of wondering “is this real?” we now ask “how much longer!?”

I’m going to start sharing weekly updates with you, first personal, and then below, the latest news and data from Israel.

Just last week, two of my son’s friends got married. They are 18 years old, seniors in high school. Are these kids thinking this is the end of the world? Are they doing things now, while they still can?

I understand that. And I agree. Do things now. Don’t PLAN. DO.

Every new morning is a new opportunity to do. And there is plenty to do, and plenty of places to help.

I suggest those of you who want to make your mark, make your mark with us…. now.

As the voice for our 1000 medics – know that for the past 20 years we have serviced the entire Jewish population of Judea and Samaria, day and night, and corona is not slowing us down. We are continuing to service the 150 communities during this Pandemic, even at risk to our own health and lives.

Please help us today. Make us your favorite charity. We are in the trenches and pulling more than our own weight.

We can’t do this without you.

The Latest Update on Coronavirus in Israel

This has been a challenging week for all of us, but medical professionals and volunteers have the riskiest jobs.

As the cases of coronavirus continue to climb, citizens and authority figures are determined to  stop the spread of the pandemic in Israel. From policymakers, to parents, to business owners, we are all making difficult decisions and doing our best to follow the protocols regularly declared by the Health Ministry.

As of this writing, there are over 8,430 active cases of coronavirus in Israel, 139 in critical condition, and there have been 49 confirmed deaths. In good news – 546 people recovered.

Doctors, nurses, and medics have been working round the clock to provide care for those in serious condition. Needless to say, it hasn’t been easy. All medical staff are charged with providing the best care to their abilities while taking every measure possible to protect themselves and other patients.

Showing Support and Appreciation for our Medical Professionals

While this situation has been challenging in almost every realm, we’re experiencing incredibly moving moments, as well.

Citizens around the country have been using WhatsApp to organize going out to their balconies at the exact same time and cheer on those who are working round the clock throughout this pandemic: medical professionals, our soldiers, and our members of the police force.

Then there’s this touching story from Shaarei Tzedek Hospital in Jerusalem, as part of our ongoing BRAVO campaign:

Over the past several days, Rescuers Without Borders volunteers have distributed hundreds of gifts to hospital staff working with those stricken with coronavirus. While grocery store chain Yainot Beitan has provided gift cards to all of their stores, bath and body retailer Sabon participated in providing gift bags of luxury self-care products.

Here’s a short clip about this important campaign:

Israel is the Safest Place on Earth in the Face of the Pandemic

A study has just proven that Israel is the safest place to be right now.

What are we doing that’s so different from everywhere else?

We’ve got fairly strict safety precautions in place by the government, which enforced by the police force, and are generally followed by Israelis all over the country. One thing that unites us all is the desire to see an end to this crisis.

Still – in order to maintain this record, and keep the people of Israel alive and well, we need your help! Our medics are low on protective equipment, and we need you to help us buy them more. Your support is and will keep Israel safe! Thank you!
